What advice would you give to incoming freshmen about decorating their rooms?

Make your room your own. This is going to be your new home for a while, so personalize it! Bring pictures of your friends and family from home, buy posters of your favorite bands/movies/quotes, etc. Have fun with it! Make it a place that makes you feel relaxed and comfortable.

What was the inspiration for your room?

I like keeping my things simple, clean and organized. I wanted to give my room character, but at the same time I didn’t want my room to look cluttered, so I got two big decorations that cover a lot of space and look cool.

What was the inspiration for your room?

The inspiration for my room was my love for pink, bright colors and flowers. I wanted my room to have a homey feel to it, so, naturally, I wanted to fill my room with things that I love.

Why the Minions and Frozen decor?

Despicable Me and Frozen are two of my favorite movies, so I knew that I wanted to include that in my room somehow.

What was the inspiration for your room?

I guess my inspiration for my room came from endlessly looking on Pottery Barn Teen and seeing all the different things I liked. Surprisingly, I have no eye for design, so looking at websites and pictures were really helpful. My favorite colors have always been black and pink, so I knew I wanted that to be my color scheme. I only got to redo my room once in my life, so when decorating my dorm, I wanted something more mature but still very feminine.

What was the inspiration for your room?

I really like to decorate. I think I just have a niche for decorating, because I didn’t really have a vision in mind. I just hung a bunch of stuff up and did a lot of shopping for things that I thought would make it look good, and it came out looking pretty cool. Although, I did make sure to feature my favorite singers, which are Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey and Sam Smith.”

Your room seems to feature a lot of music elements. Is music a passion of yours?

I am very passionate about music. Here, at Binghamton University, I am involved in University Chorus, and next semester I hope to get into one of the a cappella groups! Music is a huge part of my life and my favorite hobby, and I always hope to keep it that way!

What’s your favorite part of your room?

My favorite parts of my room are probably my Maryland flag and my Washington, D.C. poster. I am not from the New York area, so having these things in my room make me feel that much more at home.

What advice would you give to incoming freshmen about decorating their dorm rooms?

When it comes to decorating a room, rather than think about things that match and look good, try to fit things so that they reflect who you are as a person and individual. Everything will come together in due time.

Tanya Munson

Year: Junior

Major: Double major in Psychology and Economics

What’s your favorite part of your room?

My bed. I have a bunch of throw pillows that make it comfortable. I also have three layers of foam mattress toppers that make it super soft. Whenever I have friends over, we all hang out on my bed to talk and watch TV, so when I’m not sleeping it’s essentially like a sofa.”

The headboard was a great addition to the room. How did you make that happen?

It was as easy as cutting a tri-fold poster board into the shape I wanted, using spray adhesive to glue on foam and stapling my fabric of choice to it! I got the idea by adapting tutorials I found on Pinterest for making more permanent headboards using plywood instead of making a more portable cardboard one. I got all the supplies at the craft store for around $25!
