Shelley Dionne named associate dean of Binghamton University School of Management
Dionne has a long history with SOM, and is now associate dean of faculty research and PhD programs
Shelley Dionne has held many titles during her time at Binghamton University.
Since joining the faculty in 2001, her roles have included professor of leadership, faculty athletics representative and associate director of the Bernard M. and Ruth R. Bass Center for Leadership Studies.
As of the beginning of the school year, she holds a new title: associate dean of faculty research and PhD programs.
Dionne has a long history with the School of Management, where she earned her MBA in 1994 and her PhD in 1998.
“As an alum, I am very passionate about the PhD program. It’s my legacy, and I want to protect that legacy while also helping it to grow,” she says.
Dionne has taken over the role previously held by Professor Manoj Agarwal, who is now overseeing development of a cross-disciplinary master’s program in data analytics with the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science and Harpur College of Arts and Sciences. In supporting the school’s STEM and data-focused initiatives, Dionne believes that SOM is headed in the right direction to ensure its students are prepared for the future of business.
“Our students have a strong and developed sense of confidence, as well as a spirit of innovation and competition,” she says. “Barriers are nothing to them. They find their way around barriers with a great sense of optimism.”
Dionne says she’s excited to collaborate with colleagues across all areas of the school, and that collaboration is a key component to furthering the school’s reputation of success.
“What makes the School of Management so great is the people. And it’s not just the faculty or the students or the staff, it’s the interaction of all of those groups working together that makes it so great,” she says.
“The potential of the people here constantly wows me.”
