PwC support of School of Management benefits Binghamton communities
The impact made by PricewaterhouseCoopers is seen on campus and in the community
In the past two decades, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has increasingly invested in the Binghamton University School of Management, and the firm’s impact is noticeable on campus and within the greater Binghamton region.
The PwC Scholars program attracts students who excel in the classroom and have a heart for the community. In addition to taking part in career-focused programming, the scholars organize, fund and work on annual service projects such as the OurSpace playground at Recreation Park in Binghamton.
“Over the last 10 years, it has gone to another level, and the students are incredible in what they produce,” says Seth Drucker ’06, partner at PwC. “They learn a lot about themselves and the business world, and become well-rounded professionals at an early age.”
Binghamton’s PwC Scholars have also learned a great deal about business by participating in the PwC Challenge, a case competition drawing teams from about 100 schools nationwide.
“This allows freshmen and sophomores to be exposed to valuable experiences early on,” Drucker says. “It’s impressive to see how polished the students are, even at that point in their careers. I like seeing how they think about issues. It’s not necessarily about getting the right answer, but we’re interested in how they reason and back up their points of view.”
The relationship with Binghamton University has certainly been rewarding for PwC — Binghamton is the largest source of new talent for the firm’s New York office.
“We invest in SOM because the students continue to do very well,” Drucker says. “We have more than 300 Binghamton alumni at PwC and they work very hard. Each group coming in seems to get better. Seeing how bright the SOM students are gives me tremendous pride as a Binghamton graduate.”
