Students from three New York state schools have an easier path to becoming a pharmacist with the recent signing of three separate articulation (transfer) agreements with Binghamton University’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Elmira College and Ithaca College have signed agreements for what is commonly known as a 3+4 program that allows qualified students from those institutions to transfer into Binghamton’s School of Pharmacy after three years of undergraduate work. Once their first year is completed at Binghamton, credits transfer back to the students’ undergraduate institution for a bachelor’s degree. Students then have only three years left of their PharmD program at Binghamton, earning their bachelor’s and PharmD degrees in only seven years, rather than eight.

The 2+4 agreement with Nassau Community College will allow Nassau students to complete their associate degree and PharmD degrees in only six years by transferring directly into Binghamton’s program to begin their professional coursework after earning their associate degree in biology.

“We’re thrilled with these agreements that create a smooth path for students from Elmira and Ithaca colleges, and Nassau Community College to transition to our school,” said Gloria Meredith, founding dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. “These are highly qualified students who will join with other students from around the state and beyond to become outstanding pharmacy professionals offering patient-centered care.

“As we expand our reach throughout New York state, it is gratifying to have developed these strong connections with other schools and we look forward to enrolling their highly qualified students,” she added.

Binghamton’s School of Pharmacy also has 3+4 agreements with Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Wells College and Ithaca College, as well as 2+4 programs with SUNY Broome Community College, SUNY Onondaga Community College and SUNY Nassau Community College.
