Binghamton University to host 10 virtual Commencement ceremonies

Binghamton University will host virtual Commencement ceremonies for nearly 5,000 Class of 2020 graduates during 10 separate, virtual ceremonies in December, beginning with the doctoral ceremony Sunday, Dec. 13, and continuing with master’s and baccalaureate ceremonies throughout the week of Dec. 14. All ceremonies will be premiered on both YouTube and Facebook, allowing families and friends to watch together, while in their bubble or socially distanced, as each student is highlighted on a slide rather than by walking across a stage. The videos will remain available on the web after the premieres.

“This has been a remarkable year for a remarkable class — marked most notably by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said President Harvey Stenger. “The pandemic also postponed well-deserved recognition until now. I know that the Class of 2020 has waited eagerly to be formally recognized for their achievements and these ceremonies will honor them for all they have accomplished during an unprecedented time.”

The ceremonies will honor the entire Class of 2020, not only those graduates who would have attended an in-person ceremony. In all, degree recipients will be recognized for having earned more than 3,860 bachelor’s, 1,250 master’s and 180 doctoral degrees, including hundreds of students who earned more than one degree.

In addition to the doctoral ceremony, each school and college will have its own ceremony for master’s and bachelor’s degree recipients, with the exception of the School of Management, which will hold separate ceremonies for its master’s and baccalaureate students. Harpur College of Arts and Sciences will hold four ceremonies to accommodate all of its graduates.

No honorary degrees will be awarded.

Monday, Dec. 14

• 6 p.m. – Harpur College of Arts and Sciences 1 (those students whose last names begin with A – E)
  Student speaker: Emily Jelen
• 8 p.m. – Harpur College of Arts and Sciences 2 (those students whose last names begin with F – K)
  Student speaker: Natalia Jurek

Tuesday, Dec. 15

• 6 p.m. – Harpur College of Arts and Sciences 3 (those students whose last names begin with L– Q)
  Student speaker: Gabriel Pinciotti
• 8 p.m. – Harpur College of Arts and Sciences 4 (those students whose last names begin with R – Z)

Wednesday, Dec. 16

• 6 p.m. – Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences
  Student speaker: Alexis Povoromo
• 8 p.m. – College of Community and Public Affairs
  Student speakers: Devona Paul (master’s) and Natassia Josephs (undergraduate)

Thursday, Dec. 17

• 6 p.m. – School of Management undergraduate ceremony
  Student speaker: Karan “Ron” Katarian
• 8 p.m. – School of Management master’s ceremony

Friday, Dec. 18

• 6 p.m. – Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science
  Student speakers: Erika Solano Diaz (master’s) and Emma Pawliczak (undergraduate)
