Binghamton University’s Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences is proud to announce that Jodi Sutherland, clinical associate professor of nursing, was selected to receive the 2022 Honored Nurse Award from the Professional Nurses Association of South Central New York (PNASCNY), an affiliate of the American Nurses Association.

The award was presented to Sutherland at a ceremony held May 12 at Binghamton University’s Health Sciences Building in Johnson City, N.Y.

“Jodi Sutherland was selected for exceptional leadership, education and the ability to go beyond in our celebrated profession,” said PNASCNY President Tricia Wharton. Also representing the PNSASCNY at the event were Vice President Danielle Caviness and Secretary Pam Stewart Fahs. Fahs is also a professor of nursing and the Decker Chair of Rural Health at Decker College.

“The work I have done as a nursing professional … has always been because of patients and communities and patient health outcomes,” Sutherland said. “Hearing their voices and stories and understanding their life situations and circumstances motivates me to want to understand more and to learn how to be a better nurse advocate.”

Sutherland earned a master’s degree in nursing with a community health educator focus in 2007 and a PhD in nursing in 2015, both from Binghamton University. She joined Decker College in 2012 as a research assistant and became a full-time faculty member in 2015.
