On-campus student employees celebrated
Student employees are critical members of many campus offices and departments. Across the University, you can find the friendly faces of our students greeting visitors at front desks, serving food at campus dining centers, assisting their peers through tutoring and other support services, helping with office marketing efforts and more. All student employees were invited to Student Employee Appreciation Day on May 10 at the new baseball stadium complex to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the University. Nearly 400 students attended and enjoyed a sunny afternoon filled with baseball, hot dogs, snacks, prizes and time with friends.
On-campus employment is an enriching experience for students, enabling them to develop transferable skills for the job market and increasin their involvement in the campus community, all while providing them with supplemental income. The Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development hosted an On-Campus Student Employment Fair on April 6 to help students connect with departments to learn more about open positions across campus. Thirty campus offices tabled and connected with 249 student attendees about available opportunities. As part of the fair, the Fleishman Center organized a workshop for students to assist them in writing strong application materials for any part-time job. A second workshop, “Maximizing the Student Employee Experience,” was offered to campus supervisors to further enable them to facilitate learning in their student positions. These efforts help students to learn important career skills and maximize the value of on-campus employment experiences.
