Division appoints four new directors

The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to announce the recent appointment of four new directors.

  • Christopher Downey was appointed director of health and counseling services effective April 28, 2022. Since August 2015, he has served as director of sports medicine and performance in the Binghamton University Athletics Department. In this role, Downey was also closely involved in mental health and well-being initiatives within Athletics and across the University.
  • Christen Szymanski has been appointed director of Services for Students with Disabilities, effective June 23. She brings over 15 years of experience in disability advocacy, accommodation provision and implementation, and other work in the disability community to assure equitable access. Most recently she operated a private practice and worked as a student support specialist at the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center in Washington, D.C.
  • Eric Walsh was appointed director of Student Affairs Assessment and Strategic Engagement effective March 31, 2022. Walsh, who received master’s and PhD degrees from Binghamton University, returns to the area having gained significant experience as the assistant director of assessment and research in the Division of Student Life at the University at Buffalo.
  • Laura Reindl has been appointed director of student affairs communications, effective May 26, 2022. Reindl is stepping into this new position in the division after spending nearly eight years coordinating communications for the Center for Civic Engagement. During this time she has also worked with many other departments and offices as a member of the Student Affairs Communications Team.
