“It is my absolute pleasure to announce that Eric Richards has been hired to join the faculty at SOPPS as an experiential education co-coordinator/clinical assistant professor,” said Nicholas Schwier, assistant dean for experiential education and clinical associate professor.

Richards has an impressive career with over 40 years of leadership and pharmacy experience, as well as seven years of teaching as an adjunct instructor to allied health providers.

He graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University’s Raabe College of Pharmacy. Shortly after graduating pharmacy school, he started his career as a staff pharmacist and quickly advanced to the roles of president and part owner of Medical Center Pharmacy, Inc., in Athens, Ohio. Richards was also concomitantly the director of pharmacy at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, in Athens, Ohio. Later in his career, he relocated to the Lone Star State, and worked for HCA Houston Healthcare in the southeast Texas area. He rose from a clinical pharmacist to operations manager, and then to director of pharmacy positions for two HCA Houston Healthcare institutions. For over five years, Richards has been the director of pharmacy for HCA Houston Healthcare, Clear Lake, in Webster, Texas.

“The Office of Experiential Education is excited for Eric to join our team,” Schwier said. “He brings a wealth of hospital pharmacy experience, entrepreneurial perspective and leadership experience with him.

“I have no doubt of the extent of his impact within our community of preceptors and students,” Schwier added. “ERic will start in late June, and Marissa Langett and I will continue helping with Upstate preceptor needs until he is fully oriented to the SOPPS, as well as to our network of preceptors and experiential learning sites.

“Congratulations, Clinical Assistant Professor Eric Richards!” Schwier said. “Welcome to the Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Pharmily!”
