Binghamton University School of Pharmacy receives innovation scholarship
$20,000 award to be used to enhance TRUST program
Binghamton University’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SOPPS) is one of only four schools and colleges of pharmacy recognized by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation for their innovation track scholarships. The scholarships were awarded from a competitive pool of applications submitted from accredited institutions. The other recipients are Howard University College of Pharmacy, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center College of Pharmacy and University of the Pacific Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy.
The NACDS Foundation presented SOPPS Dean Kanneboyina Nagaraju with a check for $20,000 to be used for an Innovation Scholarship Award at SOPPS at the NACDS Foundation Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla., April 24.
The school’s application centered on expanding the impact of the its TRUST (The Rural and Underserved Service Track) program. The expanded program offers pharmacy students opportunities for multidisciplinary collaborations and enhances health literacy and cultural competency education while delivering essential patient care to underserved rural populations.
“Congratulations to Dr. Bennett Doughty and the TRUST program leadership at our University for their commitment to training our students in interprofessional collaborations among pharmacy, nursing, social work, public health and medical disciplines in rural and underserved areas,” said Nagaraju.
“Congratulations to the 2023 NACDS Foundation scholarship awardees. We are particularly excited about this year’s project proposals, which aim to positively impact community health and enhance patient outcomes at the local level,” said NACDS Foundation President Sara Roszak. “We’d also like to thank our generous benefactors for their tremendous and ongoing support of the Scholarship Program and for their commitment to the next generation of patient-centered community care.”
