Anonymous donor gives record $500 million to build dome over Binghamton University

BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University students won’t have to worry about the rain and snow for much longer. A large dome will be built over campus thanks to a $500 million donation from an anonymous donor.

A Binghamton alumna, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated the record-breaking $500-million to fund the construction of a massive, transparent bubble, which will cover the entirety of the University’s campus. The donor cited “four years of insufferable snow and rain” as reason for her donation.

“We want our students to be warm, dry and happy,” said Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger. “This dome will ensure that students can get to and from class rain- and snow-free, which I’m sure will help improve morale and boost the academic achievements of our entire student body. I won’t mind it, either.”

The dome will include heating units, defoggers, rain-dampeners and a host of other cutting-edge features. Upon construction of the dome, the campus will boast a year-round temperature of 72 degrees F. The dome will also feature a retractable roof, so students can enjoy snow around the holiday season.

Design of the dome, by R.U. Keating Architecture, has begun and is expected to take about 24 months, followed by a bidding process. The dome should be completed by spring 2030.

Happy April Fool’s Day!
