Here’s some news that will make waves with students! Binghamton University is opening a new waterslide and pool area on campus.

Baxter’s Bay, to be located on the rooftop of the University Union, will feature two luxurious pools and a series of state-of-the-art waterslides. The sprawling new area is intended to provide students with a place to relax between classes.

“The idea has been floating around for some time,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Brian T. Rose. “Baxter’s Bay is the next evolution in providing cutting-edge amenities to Binghamton University students. This exciting addition provides a fun new way to unwind and de-stress.”

Named in honor of the University’s mascot, Baxter, the new area will feature several ultramodern waterslides, including the 1,000-foot Clock Terror and 500-foot Harpur’s Fury. All waterslides were constructed with assistance from faculty at the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Baxter’s Bay will be unveiled during Spring Fling, the biggest student event of the year.

“Baxter’s Bay is literally everything to me,” said junior Emma Young. “I can’t wait to take a quick slide or two between classes!”

Peter Nardone, senior director of the Union and Student Affairs Space Planning, said that Baxter’s Bay is the “first college rooftop pool and waterslide area named after a binturong” in the country.

“Add ‘Premier Public Pools’ to our list of accolades,” said Nardone. “Upstate New York is the perfect place to have a year-round outdoor waterpark, don’t you think?”

Construction on Baxter’s Bay has been fast-tracked and will be complete in about a week.

Happy April Fool’s Day!
