Decker College nursing students receive awards for academic excellence
Three seniors honored during annual EOP awards ceremony

Madelin Denteh, Nana Gyamfi and Marshia Mizan, all students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, received SUNY Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards. These awards are given by the SUNY Chancellor’s Office of Opportunity Programs to EOP students who achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The three soon-to-be graduates were presented with pins from Binghamton’s EOP Office to commemorate this distinction.
Both Denteh and Mizan were also recipients of the Westley Van Dunk Eminence Award, which is presented to a graduating senior in the nursing program who demonstrates exceptional academic excellence and overall achievement. This award is named in honor of Westley Van Dunk, a Binghamton EOP alumnus who served as an EOP counselor for over 40 years.
Additionally, Denteh was awarded the EOP Research Scholars Award, which recognizes a senior who has shown significant engagement in undergraduate research, investigation, or creative exploration in their major or area of interest.
The awards were announced at the University’s EOP Senior Recognition Brunch and Awards Ceremony held March 31 in downtown Binghamton.
