Binghamton professor Frances Munroe elected president of Nurse Practitioner Association of New York State

Frances Munroe, clinical assistant professor at Binghamton University’s Decker School of Nursing, was elected president of the Nurse Practitioner Association (NPA) of New York State for Region 2. She will serve as the group’s president-elect in 2018 and as president in 2019.

The NPA promotes high standards of healthcare delivery by empowering the state’s nurse practitioners. Composed of 21 local groups in seven regions, the NPA provides a variety of educational and networking programs. Region 2 encompasses New York state’s Finger Lakes, Greater Rochester and Southern Tier areas.

Munroe began teaching at Binghamton University in 1994 and primarily works with students in the nurse practitioner (NP) program. She is part of a team working with rural NP students who are recipients of a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant and she also coordinates an annual skills day workshop for NP students.

A board-certified family nurse practitioner and occupational health nurse specialist, Munroe has worked in primary care, family practice, occupational health and pediatrics nursing. She practices at the Ascension Lourdes Primary Care office in Vestal, N.Y.

Munroe earned a doctorate of nursing practice from George Washington University and a master’s degree and certificate in family practice nursing from the Decker School.
