PwC Scholars explore United Kingdom
35 PwC Scholars took part in this year's international trip

Thirty-five PwC Scholars took part in a 10-day journey to the United Kingdom as part of the program’s annual international trip in the weeks leading up to spring semester. Accompanied by School of Management Associate Professor Ali Yayla and Visiting Assistant Professor Dina Layish, as well as PwC recruiter Ally Rao, the students explored many historical and culturally significant sites, as well as gained valuable insight into conducting international business.
The first six days were spent in London, where students visited the Tower of London, Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace and Stonehenge. They attended a soccer match, which included a surprise visit by PwC partner Matthew Singer ’96.
Students spent a day at PwC’s More London office, meeting with the company’s disruption team to hear a discussion about changes they predict for the future as well as the effects of Brexit. Representatives also talked about secondment and their experiences working in London.
The visit provided students a rare opportunity to experience international business firsthand, including a chance to experience client engagement from the perspective of both PwC and HSBC.
On the way to Edinburgh, Scotland, the group stopped at the famous Oxford University, where parts of the popular Harry Potter movies were filmed. They also spent a night in Liverpool and visited the Cavern Club, where the Beatles were discovered.
While in Edinburgh, the students visited Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, climbed to the top of Arthur’s Seat, and took in the National Museum of Scotland and saw an exhibit on Dolly the Sheep. They also made a stop in St. Andrews to visit the “home of golf” as well as the Cathedral of St. Andrew.
Scholars who participated say the trip consisted of “great times, with great people, in Great Britain” and look forward to learning the location of next year’s international trip.
