Explanation of Costs:

Please review the following information carefully.

Food and Housing

Graduate Students must secure off-campus housing. Cost of room and board off campus varies considerably according to the type of accommodations and personal eating habits.

Students may save a significant amount by sharing an apartment. Information on off campus housing can be found on the Binghamton University Off Campus College (OCC) website. The Office of International Education and Global Initiatives also has some information on housing availability. Students living off campus commonly report a cost of approximately $120 per week for food.

Many students opt to travel on weekends and breaks. The cost of travel and alternative housing during the breaks is not factored into this estimate of costs and should be considered by the student when determining a budget for personal expenses.

Health Insurance

The SUNY health insurance fee was $149.69 per month for 2020-2021. Costs are estimated to increase approximately 5% for 2021-2022, but the exact costs won't be known until summer of 2021. Dates of coverage are 8/15-1/14 for the fall semester, and 1/15-8/14 for the spring/summer semester.

Fees

Fees covered by the exchange program include the regular semester billable fees. Some courses have a laboratory, equipment, activities, or supplies fee, which is the responsibility of the student. The New Student Fee is a one-time charge applied to every student and will be charged to your student account bill. It covers the cost of the mandatory orientation. The International Student Fee is charged to each international student each semester and covers the cost of administering the SEVIS immigration requirements at Binghamton.

Orientation

In addition to the Exchange welcome and orientation activitites, incoming exchange students are required to attend the International Student and New Student Orientations, held by the Office of International Student & Scholar Services and Student Affairs. The new student fee is $125 for all incoming graduate exchange students, and this includes the Welcome Dinner on the first day of orientation.
