In accordance with Article 28 of the Agreement Between the State of New York and United University Professions, Inc., the following is the medical emergency procedure for the Binghamton University campus.
Binghamton University utilizes a campus-wide blue light and 911 emergency telephone system. Employees, students and visitors may use any blue light telephone, or dial 911 on any campus telephone, to report any kind of emergency (i.e., fire, sudden illness, accident, etc.). This number, along with other pertinent emergency numbers, appears in University telephone directory.
When using cell phones or other non-campus telephones, employees, students and visitors may report campus emergencies by dialing 607-777-2393. Calling 911 from a cell phone will contact Broome County Dispatch, who will either notify Binghamton University Police Dispatch, or directly dispatch University Police to the emergency.
Blue light telephones and 911 should only be used to report emergencies.
University Police officers respond to all campus emergencies. University Police will dispatch an ambulance from Harpur's Ferry Student Volunteer Ambulance Service whenever an ambulance is needed. If Harpur's Ferry is not available, Broome County Emergency Services will dispatch the nearest available ambulance.
The University Health Service has medical personnel on duty to assist students with medical emergencies from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. During student vacations, the University Health Service hours are 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. They are closed on weekends.
