Biomedical engineers can join a fast-growing department focused on improving human health through advances in healthcare and medicine. This includes advancing our understanding of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injury, disease and the health complications associated with physiologic and sociologic factors such as aging, environment and diet.

As technology becomes ever more prevalent in our 21st century lives, computer science can lead the way with programming the latest apps and tackling larger problems such as cybersecurity and machine learning. Master’s and PhD students can study topic as varied as algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, cloud computing, and data science.

Graduate students in electrical and computer engineering join our faculty in research areas such as speech recognition, cybersecurity, new/green energy, circuit design, next-generation computer engineering and e-health. Collaborations are conducted through research centers, including the Center for Autonomous Solar Power.

With a balance of advanced theory and practical knowledge, the Mechanical Engineering Department features basic and applied research in multidisciplinary areas reflecting our experienced faculty members’ interests. Those interests include leading-edge technology such as acoustics, solid mechanics, biomechanics, microelectromechanical systems and nanomechanics.

Offered by the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering, this master’s degree provides a balance of theory and practical knowledge to prepare for professional or leadership roles in various healthcare areas, including hospital operations management, health systems engineering, health information technology and consulting. Students learn modeling and simulation, statistical process control, data science, reliability modeling, scheduling, human factors and optimization.

The Executive Program in Health Systems – Manhattan, offered by the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering, focuses on improving quality management, scheduling and sequencing in outpatient clinics; as well as operational control such as medical records and patient turnaround time in emergency rooms. This one-year program features Saturday-only classes at a midtown Manhattan location.

Faculty from the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering offer internationally recognized, transdisciplinary learning and research experiences. As an industrial and systems engineer, you'll study complex systems and look for simplifying solutions across all environments and fields of study, including manufacturing, management, health systems and social sciences.

There is increasing demand for professionals skilled in data mining, data analysis, and in creating and configuring systems to process vast quantities of information. This program from the School of Computing is intended for students who have an interest in computer systems strictly from the user/application perspective and whose career paths are focused on computer hardware and software systems operations and maintenance.

This program from the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering emphasizes faculty-student collaboration as well as teamwork across disciplines and various divisions of engineering, business and industry. Research areas include fuzzy logic, data analysis and knowledge discovery, uncertainty theories, generalized information theory, soft computing, intelligent control and robotics, decision making and complex systems.

Graduate students can choose two tracks in this interdisciplinary program: One is led by the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, and the other is led by the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science. Among the faculty is SUNY Distinguished Professor M. Stanley Whittingham, who won the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his pioneering work with lithium-ion batteries.
