The Abraham J. Briloff Lecture Series on Accountability ans Society began in 1985 and is named in honor of the late Abraham Briloff, LHD ‘84. Dr. Briloff earned a bachelor's degree in commerce from the School of Business and Civic Administration (later renamed Baruch College of the he City College of New York) in 1937. In 1960 he earned a doctorate in accountancy and taxation from New York University. Dr. Briloff received an honorary doctorate from Binghamton University in 1984.
Dr. Briloff started his own accounting firm in 1951, and in 1965 became a full-time faculty member at Baruch College. In 1976 Dr. Briloff was appointed as the Emanuel Saxe Distinguished Professor of Accountancy, named after his life-long mentor. Dr. Briloff was both a critic and friend of the accounting profession; publicly admonishing professionals and organizations who did not adhere to generally accepted accounting principles. Dr. Briloff wrote a column in Barron's for three decades.
The Briloff Lecture Series brings together members of the accounting profession, and business and campus communities to contemplate topics related to business ethics.
