Sustainability Cup

Compete for the Planet, Win for Your Community!

The Sustainability Cup is a competition among living communities to become the GREENEST on campus. By participating, you'll help improve recycling efforts, energy and water use, waste diversion from landfills, and have a greater appreciation for sustainability at Binghamton University.

Students living on campus can earn points for their living community in different ways. Utilities, recycling, and waste are tracked on a daily basis at the building level. Comparing previous years usage and headcount we established a baseline level for each dorm community. From that baseline we are aiming for a percent reduction in usage in each of those categories. Living communities receive 100 points for each goal they reach. They can also lose points based on a percent increase from the baseline. 

Students can earn points through participation. Students earn points by interacting with existing sustainability related clubs, events, and activities. We encourage creativity and reward students for organizing their own sustainability related activity, be it helping design the winners Sustainability Trophy to hosting clean-ups.

The living community that has the most points by the end of April will be crowned the Sustainability Cup Champions. The winning community will receive the Sustainability Cup to showcase in their area and receive a grand prize they voted on for their outdoor space. Along with the living community winners, Binghamton University and our local community win from the reduced economic, environmental, and social impacts generated from this competition.

Follow and Participate

Students on campus can check out their standing and submit earn points through the cup dashboard found on my.binghamton.edu under the Campus Life tab. Points are updated weekly on Fridays.
