Hans Gindlesberger
Associate Professor, Chair
Background
Working with a broad range of photographic traditions and photo-adjacent processes,
Gindlesberger’s work repositions the boundaries of the medium. His current research and studio work focuses on the often-overlooked materiality of the image by replicating and translating photographic objects through tactile processes more commonly associated with sculpture, drawing, glass casting and printmaking.
Gindlesberger’s work has been shown in exhibitions, festivals, and screenings throughout the United States and internationally, including solo exhibitions at Galleri Image in Denmark, Gallery 44 in Toronto, the Miami University Art Museum in Ohio, University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and group exhibitions at the Mount Rokko International Photo Festival in Japan, the Voies Off Festival in France, DongGang International Photo Festival in South Korea, #PostFuture Athens Digital Arts Festival in Greece, Rust Belt Biennial in Wilkes-Barre, FILE Media Art in Brazil, and the Medium Festival of Photography in San Diego. He has been invited to lecture at venues including FIF_BH in Brazil, Central Saint Martins, the University of the Arts in London and the University of Edinburgh; in 2022, he was a Fulbright Scholar in residence at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, home of Korea’s pioneering photography and new media program.
