Study Abroad

Study Abroad

Our Study Abroad Program provides students with direct experiences of cultural difference and opportunities for intellectual development valuable for professional and civic leadership in a world community. The department's two short-term study abroad sites are Senegal and Grenada. To expand the range of cultural experiences we are also exploring links with South African and Ethiopian Universities and hope to have these programs available in the near future.

Africana Studies students can enroll in semester and year long study abroad programs through other Binghamton University and SUNY study-abroad sites, including;

  • Belize
  • Ghana
  • Morocco
  • London
  • South Africa

Currently, the department sponsors a summer excursion/ study trip to Ghana with musicologist James Burnes as faculty leader.

National Student Exchange (NSE)

The NSE also provides additional opportunities for Binghamton University students to study for up to one calendar year at another NSE member college or university. More than 175 colleges and universities participate throughout the U.S., Canada, the U.S Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam. The NSE program is available through the university's Discovery Program.
