Background
Young-il Kim has ten years of teaching experience in the field of Korean Linguistics and Korean Language Education. He worked for six years as a lecturer and visiting professor at several universities in Korea. During this time, he obtained the Korean Language Teacher Level 1 Certificate, issued by the Korean government. Prior to joining Binghamton University, he taught Korean language and culture at Crescenta Valley High School in La Crescenta, California. Since 2019, he has been conducting research focusing on passive, middle, and causative constructions in the Korean language. Additionally, as of August 2023, he is serving as the project leader in the production of a textbook titled "Integrated Social Studies for Korean Language Learners in North America - All About Korea," with the support of the Academy of Korean Studies. As a classroom instructor, he firmly believes that establishing an authentic connection between student and teacher is essential. To engage the students, he always utilizes a variety of visual materials such as self-made videos, photographs, newspaper articles, K-movies, K-dramas, and K-pop songs to create lessons that have an intriguing "vibe." His credo is that teaching and learning should bring joy to all parties involved.
