Crickets and Flies: 10/05
There are a lot of crickets that I’m focusing on and a blue jay and possibly frogs in the background. It is very nice and sunny out, especially compared to yesterday. There seems to be two or more different insects in this one area. I am right by the gun club. It just feels like a different day right now because of the change in the weather and scenery. There are less annoying nats here which is very nice. I am trying to pinpoint individual crickets again. I was able to listen to some flies buzzing and I believe a grasshopper.
Birds on Oak: 10/05
There was a bird that I was trying to record and Taylir was trying to
-More bird activity than expected
I was able to pinpoint birds toward the anthill area
The birds reminded me of seagulls at the beach
Story on recording after
There was a little less bird activity than there was before. It was a very steep scent to get to the spot. On the way up Taylir lost the dead cat so I was a little mad at her. She came back while I was recording my previous oak recording and fortunately she found it. Taylir’s bird app wasn't working when the bird was there so we were unable to identify it. There are distant sirens in the background. There were also 2 little chipmunks playing with each other near Taylir. I put the recorder in a chipmunk hole and was afraid that a chipmunk might pop out.
Storm Progressing:
- August 30th around 5:50 pm
- Storm was rolling in, very dark
- I remembered being excited to catch the sounds of the storm, but I only got rain, which was still cool but I wanted to get thunder
- Wind picked up, so trees were swaying
- Rain started shortly after, quickly turned into downpour, so I placed my umbrella over the mic
- While hiking up to anthill I also saw a little newt
Muddy Sounds: 11/08
- Mainly wanted to get nice fall wind sounds
- First part of recording was in tall dead/drying grass, made very pleasant sound
- Once wind died down I tried to focus on what was common for the ground during fall → crunchy leaves, mud
- I had a lot of fun getting mud sounds, shotgun was great since it really focussed in on the sound
- Got more crunchy leaves but experimented with drawing the shotgun closer and farther away to get more perspective
- Saw/heard bird calling so I followed the bird around with the shotgun, but I stayed in the same place so recording could get a feel for how far away bird was from my location
- Chilly about 46 degrees
