BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University’s high mileage car, designed and built by students from the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science, will be on display and included as an entry at this weekend’s annual Mike and Michelle Stolarcyk Cars and Trucks Southern Tier Speedworld Car Show, Friday, Mar. 2, thru Sunday, Mar. 4 at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City.
The supermileage car, which employs high-level technology for direct fuel injection and a sophisticated electronic control system to enhance mileage, will be among race cars of all major divisions in the Southern Tier.
The Watson team, which includes five seniors and one junior from the areas of mechanical, electrical and computer engineering, are preparing the car for competition this June, and working on a goal of hitting 1,500 miles per gallon. The competition requires students to build a one-person, super-fuel-efficient vehicle with a small four-cycle engine.
