BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University has announced that it has reached its ambitious $95 million goal for the University’s comprehensive gifts campaign ahead of schedule. But before the books close in June on this very successful effort, Binghamton is hoping to be well on the way to reaching a new fundraising milestone for the University.

“The $95 million already raised is a great achievement, but we believe we can do even more,” said Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger. “With four months left, we plan on taking the campaign to a new goal of  $100 million. Private contributions are crucial to the advancement and success of the University and we are proud to have such great supporters who are investing in our future. This campaign for Binghamton University will help shape our University, faculty and students for years to come.”

Focused on ensuring student access to a premier public university through scholarships, supporting faculty and professorships, and providing flexible funds to increase quality programs, Binghamton University publicly announced the launch of the campaign in April 2010. The goal for the Campaign for Binghamton University, which began its silent phase July 1, 2005, was to conclude a $95 million fundraising effort in seven years.

“We launched the campaign during a full-blown recession,” said Paul Turovsky ’73, campaign chair. “However, we felt passionate that this campaign could help transform Binghamton’s faculty, staff and students, so we pressed ahead. The campaign is already having an impact on the campus and we plan to be around the $100 million mark when the campaign officially ends on June 30.”

“We have 30,000 people to thank. Every donor, large and small, helped us achieve this goal. It’s exciting to see how people are committed to supporting Binghamton University and how they are creating a culture of giving that also provides a path for the future,” said Marcia Craner, vice president for external affairs. “Binghamton alumni have always been leaders in the state and the world, and as friends of Binghamton they are always finding ways to help the University thrive.”
