BINGHAMTON, NY – David A. Schultz, a Binghamton University alumnus and recognized expert on ethics, political participation and eminent domain law, will conduct a presentation titled, “The Rules of Politics in the 2012 Elections,” at the Binghamton University Forum luncheon program, Thursday, Apr. 26. The luncheon will begin at noon at Traditions at the Glen, 4101 Watson Boulevard, Johnson City, followed by the presentation at 12:30 p.m.
Schultz is a professor in the Hamline University School of Business in Saint Paul, MN., where he teaches public, nonprofit and business administration. He also teaches classes in professional ethics, housing and economic policy, privatization and the foundation of public administration. Schultz holds an appointment at the University of Minnesota Law School where he teaches election law, state constitutional law and professional responsibility (legal ethics).
Schultz has a doctorate in political science and a law degree from the University of Minnesota; a masters of law from the University of London; master’s degrees in political science and in philosophy from Rutgers University and Binghamton University, respectively; a master’s degree in astronomy from James Cook University; and a bachelor’s in political science and philosophy from Binghamton University. He has taught classes in American politics, political participation, campaigns and elections, urban politics, state and local government and constitutional law at the University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, Trinity University and Gustavus Adolphus College. Schultz has also taught at the University of St. Thomas and Hamline University law schools.
Schultz has written more than 25 books, 12 legal treatises and 90 articles on topics ranging from civil service reform, campaign finance reform, eminent domain law, constitutional law, and the media and politics. His most recent publications include the Encyclopedia of American Law and Criminal Justice and Andromeda Galaxy and the Rise of Modern Astronomy.
In 2007, Schultz was a Fulbright Scholar teaching election law at the American University in Yerevan, Armeni, and in 2009 he was a Fulbright Scholar at Corvinus University in Budapest, Hungary. He has also taught and lectured in Russia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland.
In 2008, Schultz was asked by the United States State Department to serve as an independent scholar to cover the Republican National Convention in St. Paul and meet with the foreign press and media covering the convention.
Schultz is editor-in-chief for The Journal of Public Affairs and Education (JPAE), and sits on the editorial board of The Journal of Public Integrity.
Schultz is frequently sought-out as an expert by television and radio programs and has been quoted in more than 100 domestic and international newspapers and periodicals, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, the Today Show, ABC News and CBS News.
Schultz is a Binghamton native and served as the director of code enforcement under Mayor Juanita Crabb. He also served as a housing and economic planner and a community organizer for Opportunities for Broome.
