BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University’s Vice President for Student Affairs Brian Rose announced today the appointment of April Thompson as dean of students. Thompson comes to Binghamton after 11 years at Dartmouth College, where she served in multiple positions, including as associate dean of the College for Campus Life and director of Judicial Affairs. She will begin her duties Monday, Aug. 6.

“April possesses a student-centered philosophy and a collaborative leadership style that was evident throughout the search process,” said Rose. “She has demonstrated a strong commitment to student development and success that makes her an excellent match for Binghamton.”

Most recently at Dartmouth, Thompson successfully led a newly created unit that brought together 10 departments and 240 employees into a cross-divisional team of student programs and facilities. Prior to being at Dartmouth, Thompson worked in first-year student programs, residential life, facilities planning and management, campus social programming, multicultural student affairs and leadership development at Ohio University, Sonoma State University and the University of Arkansas.

As Dean of Students at Binghamton, Thompson will work closely with students to provide opportunities and experiences to support student learning and development through the areas of student conduct, student activities, multicultural programs, off-campus services, parent and family programs, and fraternity and sorority affairs.

Thompson earned her bachelor’s degree in zoology and a MEd in Higher Education from the University of Arkansas.
