BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Science Cabaret will host a discussion on Binghamton University Professor Kenneth McLeod’s book, “New Thoughts on Obesity,” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Violet Room of the Lost Dog Café.
Binghamton Science Cabaret offers an ongoing open forum for discussion and intellectual stimulation in an informal café setting. McLeod, professor of bioengineering at Binghamton University and director of the Clinical Science and Engineering Research Center, will be facilitating the discussion.
At the event McLeod will discuss how hundreds of clinical trials have shown that changes in diet and exercise are not effective in reducing body weight or maintaining reduced body weight in children or adults. He will identify new approaches and additional factors that can be incorporated into the regulation of body weight, to encourage its maintenance and reduction.
McLeod received his PhD from MIT, completed a post-doctoral fellowship in anatomy and cell biology at Tufts University, and, after serving 15 years on the Orthopaedics Faculty at Stony Brook University, became the founding chair of bioengineering at Binghamton University.
McLeod currently teaches entrepreneurship at Binghamton University. He holds over 25 issued patents, and is the founder of eleven start-up ventures.
The doors open at 6 p.m. for dining and socializing before the event.
