BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University will host a reading by award-winning poet, professor of English, and director of the University's Creative Writing Program, Maria Mazziotti Gillan, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in room 149 of the Science 1 building, on campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Gillan will provide a reading from her latest book of narrative poetry, “The Place I Call Home.” The book details memories of her childhood and love for her family, connecting her grief over personal losses, with her grief over the destruction of the environment. She has published 15 books of poetry and co-authored four anthologies with her daughter and is the subject of a 2012 documentary, “All That Lies Between Us.” The documentary tracks the writer’s life from her humble upbringing in Paterson, N.J., to her success as a Binghamton University professor and award-winning poet.

Gillan is the recipient of the 2011 Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award from Poets & Writers, and her book, “All That Lies Between Us,” won the American Book Award in 2008. She is the director and founder of the Binghamton Center for Writers, the founder and the executive director of the Poetry Center at Passaic County Community College in Paterson, NJ, and editor of the Paterson Literary Review.
