BINGHAMTON, NY – The SUNY Business and Education Cooperative of the Southern Tier (SUNY BEST) will host a presentation by Brian Hutzley, titled “SUNY Support for Small Business and Entrepreneurship,” at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in room 1324C of the Continuing Education and Outreach Office in Library North on the Binghamton University campus. This presentation is free and open to the public.

In the context of SUNY and New York State’s economic revitalization, Hutzley will address the topics of small business and entrepreneurship. The presentation will highlight the many roles played by SUNY and its campuses to provide statewide support and opportunities with an emphasis on statewide assets such as the Small Business Development Centers, SUNY Works (Co-op), SUNY Pipeline and Workforce Development.

At this meeting, Hutzley will also announce the recipients of an Entrepreneurial Century Initiative Award: SUNY BEST and the Mohawk Valley Region. Funding will allow SUNY to replicate Binghamton University’s SUNY BEST model in the Mohawk Valley region in the hopes of strengthening the region’s economic revitalization efforts through expanded community engagement, collaborations, partnerships and alliances.

Hutzley, vice chancellor for financial services and chief financial officer for SUNY, is responsible for SUNY’s $12 billion annual all-funds budget, as well as strategic infrastructure management and operations of the University. He is also co-chair of SUNY’s Entrepreneurial Century, which is composed of SUNY leaders who are committed to the cultivation of entrepreneurial thinking. Their mission is to guide innovation and growth in new and existing businesses.

Previously, Hutzley served as vice president for business and finance at SUNY Delhi, the director of finance and strategy for Mead in Sidney, New York, and held management positions at Amphenol Aerospace, AT&T, and NCR. He is on the board of directors for the Otsego County Chamber and serves on its Business Action committee.

SUNY BEST is a volunteer group composed of senior staff members from key economic and educational institutions in the Southern Tier. The group works to forge strong alliances, strengthen industry specific needs and provide information and outreach for business.
