BINGHAMTON, NY -- The Binghamton University Crew Club will host the seventh annual John McKenna IV Memorial 5K walk/run on Saturday, March 16, at Recreation Park in Binghamton.
John McKenna IV, a Binghamton graduate and member of the crew club from 1994-1998, was killed in combat during his third tour with the U.S. Marines, in Iraq on Aug. 26, 2006. The run is held to remember his indelible spirit and commitment to his team.
Proceeds will benefit the Captain John McKenna IV Military Courtesy Room at the Albany Airport, and the Binghamton Crew Club for future equipment expenses.
On Saturday, March 16, race day registration will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Children's Fun Run for the 5K beginning at 9:30 a.m. The John McKenna 5K Memorial Run will begin at 10 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow.
The cost is $15 per person. To register online, visit www.getentered.com. An online registration fee of 6% of total cost of registration, plus $1.50 will apply. The deadline for all advanced registrations is 10 a.m. Friday, March 15.
This event is supported by the Binghamton University Campus Recreational Services, Student Association, OC3, OCCT, Sodexo Campus Services, residential area community governments and Pipe Dream. In addition, community support has also been provided by CommuniKey, RoadID and Twin River Commons.
