BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Center for Writers, Creative Writing Program at Binghamton University has been awarded a total of $4500 in grants by two area arts organizations. This funding, along with support from the English Department and Office of the Dean of Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, will help support the Binghamton Poetry Project 2013 with a series of community poetry workshops.
The Broome County Arts Council’s United Cultural Fund granted the program $1,500 and the Chenango Arts Council’s Broome, Chenango & Otsego Decentralization Program awarded the Center a total of $3,000. The money will be used to underwrite the Center’s 2013 Binghamton Poetry Project.
The Binghamton Poetry Project is a literary outreach program that aims to educate young people and adults on how to write and read more creatively. Its mission is to enhance art awareness and literacy, and to use poetry to make connections between the University and the Greater Binghamton community.
