BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton University Professional Employees Council (PEC) will hold their annual spring meeting and luncheon at noon on Wednesday, April 24 in the TAU Bearcat Club Room in the Events Center, on the Binghamton University campus.
Guest speaker, Matthew Johnson, associate professor of psychology and director of the Marriage and Family Studies Laboratory at Binghamton University will present a discussion titled, “20 Empirical Results about Relationships in 20 Minutes”. Participants will learn how intimate relationships are associated with nearly every aspect of a person’s well-being, including mental and physical health, relationships with others and work performance. He will also address his discoveries on matters that most have yet to learn about those relationships. A question and answer session will follow.
Johnson is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Denver. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from UCLA before joining the Binghamton University faculty in 1999. His research interests include interventions for preventing marital discord as well as the impact of stressful events on relationships. Johnson, who maintains a private practice in which he counsels couples, teaches graduate and undergraduate seminars on intimate relationships.
The Professional Employees Council (PEC) is the officially recognized organization of professional employees at Binghamton University. PEC consists of twenty-six elected members who represent the concerns and needs of our constituents via a calendar of regular meetings. As stated in its Constitution, the PEC “exists to contribute to the growth and welfare of professional employees.” Working with the other members of the University community, professionals are an integral part of Binghamton University and contribute greatly to its excellence.
