BINGHAMTON, NY – As part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Path Through History initiative, Binghamton University’s Public Archaeology Facility (PAF) will host interpretive programs from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at the University Downtown Center on 67 Washington Street.

The public is invited to view interpretive exhibitions of artifacts covering 5,000 years of the past, and the outlines of historical features reproduced in the terrazzo floor tile of the building's lobby. Visitors can also view a sculpture – The Givers of Life – designed and carved in stone by contemporary Native American artists to commemorate the longhouse community that once stood on this land 700 years ago.

PAF will also unveil its Binghamton Heritage Walking Tour of the confluence and downtown areas. Tour stops will discuss the Native American history of the confluence, and the 19th-century history of portions of downtown Binghamton as seen through archaeological investigations. Visitors can take a guided tour or a self-guided tour using smartphones, tablets or paper brochures available in the lobby of the Downtown Center.
