BINGHAMTON, NY -- Binghamton University has been rated a ‘Best Buy’ by the Fiske Guide to Colleges, and recognized as one of the ‘premier public universities in the Northeast.’

Binghamton is one of 41 institutions − 21 public and 20 private − to be recognized by the college guide. The “Best Buy” rating is based on the quality of academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance.

“Binghamton University is committed to becoming the premier public university of the 21st century,” said President Harvey Stenger. “These rankings, which serve as a tool for prospective students and their parents as they consider colleges, help validate our efforts to provide an exceptional education to our students.”

To determine the list, Fiske researchers combined cost data with academic and other lifestyle information about each college and university to determine what institutions offer remarkable educational opportunities at a relatively modest cost.

The guide gives high marks to Binghamton’s academics, including its efforts to expand global awareness. Binghamton professors earned praise for their accessibility and classroom presentation. As noted by one student, “I’ve never taken a class with a professor who didn’t truly care about my progress as a student.” Students also are very positive about Binghamton’s lively social life, its strong athletics program and residential communities.

According to Fiske editors, “With a four-year graduation rate that is among the highest of any public university, Binghamton has a reputation for an excellent education at a reasonable price.”
