BINGHAMTON, NY – As part of a Fall Seminar Series, Binghamton University’s College of Community and Public Affairs will host a seminar titled, "Building a Sustainable Nonprofit Organization," from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 12. The event will be held at the University Downtown Center, 67 Washington Street, Binghamton.
     
How confident are you in your organization's long-term sustainability? What steps can you take today to ensure that your organization can advance its mission long into the future? Speaker David Campbell, chair and associate professor of public administration at Binghamton University, will discuss the answer to these questions and more.

Campbell will also introduce a model of nonprofit sustainability planning that participants will be able to use in managing their nonprofit organizations. Based on the book Nonprofit Sustainability: Making Strategic Decisions for Financial Viability, the model defines sustainability as a combination of both the impact of an organization's activities ("business lines") and the financial performance of each of those activities. The model will enable users to develop a simple "matrix map" that displays the financial and program performance of an organization's activities and provides the framework for sustainability planning.

This workshop will provide hands-on opportunities for participants to apply aspects of the model to their organizations (such as the identification of business lines and impact criteria). The cost is $65 per person and includes morning refreshments.
