BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton University Art Museum will host an opening reception celebrating "50 Works on Paper: Highlights from the Permanent Collection" from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. The exhibition will remain on display through Saturday, April 5, in room 213 of the Fine Arts Building on campus.

The opening will also feature at 6 p.m., a performance of original musical compositions, written by students in Professor Daniel Thomas Davis’s class and inspired by several works on view. Both the exhibition and the opening reception are free and open to the public.

In conjunction with the "50 Works on Paper" exhibition, the museum will offer several demonstrations and gallery talks at noon on Fridays throughout the month of February. Free and open to the public, the schedule will include:

Feb. 7 - "Making Drawings, " a lecture and demonstration with Blazo Kovacevic, Binghamton University assistant professor of art.

Feb. 14 - "Making Prints," a lecture and demonstration with Alexandra Davis, Binghamton University adjunct lecturer in art.

Feb. 21 - "Looking at Drawings," a gallery talk with Karen Barzman, Binghamton University associate professor of art history.

Feb. 28 - "Looking at Prints," a gallery talk with Diane Butler, director, Binghamton University Art Museum.

In addition, a special reception to highlight two small exhibitions, curated by Binghamton University undergraduate students will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6. The exhibition, "Handing Down the Past: Contemporary Pueblo and Mata Ortiz Pottery," features artwork recently donated to the Binghamton University Art Museum by Terry Peet and Peter Bridge. Students of Siobhan Hart, assistant professor of anthropology, curated the exhibition. A second exhibition, The Emerging Modern Woman: Ideals, Struggles and Opportunities," was curated by students from the Undergraduate Art History Association. Both student-curated exhibitions will be on view through Saturday, May 24.
