BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton University Art Museum will host "Something Between," an exhibition of sculptures by Matthew Zupnick ’83, in the Rosefsky Gallery, located in room 258 of the Fine Arts Building, on campus. There will be an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 7. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, runs to March 26.

Zupnick is a professor of sculpture at the University of Central Missouri. His pieces, inspired by historical events, current world affairs, human interaction and the way we treat our environment, have been shown throughout central New York, northeastern Pennsylvania, and in a variety of mid-western locations. Earlier in his career, Zupnick worked for the Binghamton University Art Museum as a technical coordinator and registrar, and for the famed Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan as a technician and handler.

The sculptures, according to Zupnick, are "primarily made from traditional materials such as bronze, steel and wood and range from intimate in size to large-scale works."

Zupnick describes the atmosphere of his exhibitions as "carnival-like," as his pieces, though designed to exist independently, play off one another. He even encourages viewers to physically interact with many of the sculptures in the exhibition by turning, pushing or even riding them.

"It is my hope that the environment that I have created will invite the audience to interact and be inspired to decipher the many mysteries that permeate my art," he said.
