BINGHAMTON, NY – As part of a Spring Seminar Series, Binghamton University’s College of Community and Public Affairs will host "Nonprofit Board Basics," from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10. Free and open to the public, this event will be held at the University Downtown Center, 67 Washington Street, Binghamton.

This workshop reviews the basic aspects of board membership and provides participants with the information they need to participate effectively as a nonprofit organization board member. Topics to be covered include by-laws, board structure, legal obligations, governance models and the balance between the board's role in policy making and governance.  

David Campbell, associate professor and chair of the Department of Public Administration at Binghamton University, will conduct the seminar. Campbell teaches classes in nonprofit management and leadership as well as philanthropy, and has held leadership positions in nonprofit organizations in New York and Cleveland. He currently serves on the board of the United Way of New York State and recently completed a term as board chair of the Family and Children's Service of Ithaca.
