BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University will host the regional round of the 2014 New York State Business Plan Competition from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Innovative Technologies Complex (ITC), 85 Murray Hill Road, Vestal. This event is free and open to the public.
The Southern Tier Region semi-final will feature students from Binghamton University, Cornell University, Ithaca College and SUNY Broome competing for a share of $10,000 in prizes and awards. If a team’s plan is reviewed favorably, it will win the right to advance to the statewide competition where a share of $500,000 will be at stake. More than one team from the region could advance to the statewide competition.
The teams must be comprised entirely of undergraduate and/or graduate students along with one faculty or staff member who serves as an advisor. This year the business plans must fall into one of the following categories: biotechnology/healthcare, energy/sustainability, information technology/software, nanotechnology/advanced technology, products/services or social entrepreneurship/non-profit.
Over 55 colleges and universities participate in the competition, which has grown from a regional competition to a statewide contest that offers some of the largest awards of any student business competition in the world.
The statewide final competition will be held April 25, at the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) in Albany.
