Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger announced today that Jim Broschart has been named vice president for advancement, effective July 1, 2014.

Broschart, who earned his master of business administration from Binghamton University in 1992, comes to Binghamton from his position as vice president for college advancement at Hartwick College. At Hartwick he has been responsible for overseeing all aspects of the development and alumni engagement programs.

While at Hartwick, Broschart managed a $32 million comprehensive fundraising campaign, leading 20 staff and more than 40 volunteers in the effort that had achieved 70 percent of its goal at its midway point. Additionally, he restructured the campus advancement operation, resulting in a 15 percent increase in gifts to the leadership annual giving society and a revived major-gifts pipeline; aligned resources and key talent to the alumni engagement function, cultivating a more robust connection to alumni; and initiated a collaborative effort that resulted in a successful merger of Family and Alumni weekends.

Prior to his position at Hartwick, Broschart held positions as director of development for the College of Arts and Sciences and then director of regional advancement for Syracuse University. He also held previous positions in development for SUNY Oswego and the Hospice of Central New York.

Broschart earned his bachelor’s degree in health services administration from Ithaca College and has received a number of honors during his career, including being named to the Central New York Business Journal’s inaugural 40 under 40 award for professional and civic accomplishments, and Leadership Greater Syracuse and Leadership Oswego County recognitions.

He has served as a member of the board of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County. He has also been president of the board of the CNY Association of Fundraising Professionals and chairman of the board of the ACMG Federal Credit Union.
