Bryn Mawr, PA, MA (July 2014) –Susannah Gal, interim dean of libraries and professor of biological sciences at Binghamton University recently graduated from the HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration, held July 6–19 at Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, Pa.

Since 1978, the HERS Institute for Women in Higher Education at Wellesley College has annually offered women faculty and administrators the opportunity to participate in an intensive program that prepares them to be leaders in higher education.

The 73 participants in this year’s institute represented institutions across the U.S. and focused on "Women Leaders: Facing the Challenges as We Re-Invent Higher Education."

Gal joined the faculty at Binghamton University in 1994, and has served as chair and graduate director of biological sciences as well as chair of the Student Fulbright Review Committee. She was previously a program director at the National Science Foundation in the Division of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences and in the Division of Graduate Education.

Her participation in the HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Institute was sponsored by President Harvey Stenger, Provost Donald Nieman, Harpur College Dean Anne McCall and Vice President for Research Bahgat Sammakia.
