BINGHAMTON, NY – "The Common Core: What Is It?" will be the topic of the Binghamton University Forum luncheon program on Friday, Dec. 12. A luncheon buffet will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the formal program will start at noon in the Old Union Hall of the University Union, on campus.
Charles Compton, director of news and public affairs at WSKG-TV and Public Radio, will moderate a panel discussion of the Common Core and it complexities. Compton is a 35-year veteran of public radio and has won numerous local, regional and national awards for investigative journalism, features and science reporting.
Panelists will include:
Jason A. Andrews, superintendent of the Windsor Central School District. He also serves as an adjunct professor at SUNY Oswego in the Superintendent’s Development Program and at the Graduate School of Education at Binghamton University. Andrews is currently serving on the House of Delegates for the NYS Council of School Superintendents and the New York State Education Commissioner’s Advisory Council.
S.G. Grant, professor of social studies education in the Graduate School of Education at Binghamton University and former dean of the Graduate School. Grant is currently serving as principal investigator for a multi-million dollar grant from the New York State Education Department to create units for the state’s K-12 studies curriculum.
James R. Tallon, Jr., president of the United Hospital Fund of New York and nationally recognized health-care policy leader. He is a member of the New York State Board of Regents, the constitutionally established supervisory body of all education and education-related activities in New York. Tallon is also chair of the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured, and serves as secretary/treasurer of the Alliance for Health Reform.
