BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University’s Center for Innovative and Continuing Education is offering a summer session with eight different reading skills programs for participants 4 years of age through adulthood beginning the week of Aug. 3 at the University’s Downtown Center, 67 Washington St., Binghamton. Tuition and materials fees vary by program level.

Reading programs for younger students build comprehension as students learn the phonics and fluency skills they need to become strong readers. Programs for older students and adults are geared toward improving comprehension and study skills, vocabulary and speed-reading. The skills taught in the classes reinforce the importance of reading for pleasure and developing a lifelong love of books.         

The programs, from the Institute of Reading Development, have been offered as a community service by Binghamton University’s Center for Innovative and Continuing Education since 2007.
