BINGHAMTON, NY - The SUNY Business and Education Cooperative of the Southern Tier (SUNY BEST) will host "Eastern Southern Tier STEM Hub" at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, in Room 220 at the Binghamton University Downtown Center, 67 Washington St., Binghamton. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Our region’s future success and our nation’s technological advantage depend on there being a reliable pool of highly trained and technically capable young people with strong skills in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The Eastern Southern Tier STEM Hub is dedicated to making an impact on K-12 education and our regional workforce by focusing on career pathways in STEM. This presentation shows how schools have connected students with businesses and higher education in the past, and plans for the future. The Eastern Southern Tier STEM Hub provides businesses and higher-education partners with easy pathways to connect and join in educating and inspiring youth to navigate their career paths in the STEM.

Featured speakers include Ron Crawford, senior manager of engineering leadership development at Lockheed Martin MST in Owego, and from Broome-Tioga BOCES, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Kathy Sheehan, Community Outreach Specialist Melinda Kmetz and Director of Instructional Programs Tom McNair.

SUNY BEST, a community development and outreach enterprise of Binghamton University’s Center for Innovative and Continuing Education, represents a volunteer group comprised of senior staff members from key economic and educational institutions in the Southern Tier. The group works to forge strong alliances, strengthen industry specific needs, and provide information and outreach for business.
