BINGHAMTON, NY - Participants in Binghamton University’s School of Management (SOM) honors program, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Scholars, will hold a community service day on Friday, April 15, at the Salvation Army on 113 Washington St., Binghamton. Starting at 9 a.m. representatives from the Salvation Army, Broome County Habitat for Humanity, PwC and SOM will be on site to provide the finishing touches to the building renovations. The day will culminate with a community celebration at 4 p.m.
More than 100 student scholars will join PwC employees and alumni to provide the last renovations, before unveiling the refurbished Salvation Army. The building, which is over 100 years old, will have updates to its kitchen, bathroom, dining rooms and storage areas.
Through various activities, the students raised all funds contributed to the Salvation Army project. The PwC Scholars performed extensive maintenance to the building, including installing new cabinetry, adding additional storage space, purchasing new appliances and equipment, painting the walls and re-surfacing the steps.
Each year, the PwC Scholars identify a local initiative to engage in community service/fundraising. The Binghamton Salvation Army provides a soup kitchen for daily meals, a food pantry and a bread line. After the renovations, the PwC Scholars will continue to volunteer and serve meals at the Salvation Army.
