BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University Libraries will hold its annual book sale from Thursday, Oct. 13 through Saturday, Oct. 15, in the East Reading Room of Bartle Library (main level), on campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Books will be available for perusal and purchase from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13; 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14; and noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

This year’s selection includes 10,000+ books of fiction, non-fiction, popular literature, scholarly subjects and more. There are also hundreds of collectible vinyl LPs, CDs, DVDs, sheet music and children's books available.

Prices range from $1 to $3, with a $5 bag sale on Saturday. Shoppers are encouraged to be green by bringing bags from home.

Books are generously donated by members of the campus and local communities. Library volunteers painstakingly sort and organize thousands of book and other donations each year.

"Bill Palmer, with the help of colleagues who willingly take this on, spends months bringing this sale to life. Under Bill’s leadership, this already popular event expands and improves each year," said Dean of University Libraries Curtis Kendrick.

"Without the donations and support of friends, colleagues and book-loving community members, we are well aware that there would be no annual sale event to enjoy. My sincere thanks to all for your generous donations and support of the Libraries," he added.

Proceeds from the annual sale help support library programs, activities, and exhibits for the campus and greater community to learn from and enjoy. These funds also support student employees in the library, a partnership that enhances services for visitors, while providing valuable work experience for students.

A rare first edition was discovered while organizing the thousands of donations received -- Anaïs Nin’s novella, Under a Glass Bell, written in 1944. The book was once owned by Harold Geisse, Jr., who donated it to the sale. Geisse, a former advertising executive, attended library school later in life. He graduated and joined the campus community approximately 20 years ago, enjoying a second career as business librarian in Bartle Library.
