Monday, February 24, 2025
Binghamton University | Alpern Room, LN 2200
This conference aims to investigate, celebrate, and discuss marronage across the Caribbean and Latin America with an emphasis on maroon communities’ relationship to their environment amidst climate change and environmental inequities and injustice. It also investigates maroon heritage and how maroon communities keep memories and legacies alive through agricultural and aesthetic practices including rice cultivation as well as carving and other arts. Scholars, artists, and community members will come together to celebrate the incredible richness of the African diaspora in the Caribbean and Latin America and to discuss the safeguarding of its heritage.
