About the Center for Community Schools
Binghamton University Center for Community Schools (BUCCS) advances global health, progressive education and well-being for marginalized populations by implementing cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research and educational opportunities with communities and people across the lifespan and the globe.
Binghamton University Center for Community Schools was founded in 2009 at Binghamton University's College of Community and Public Affairs. As one of the most interdisciplinary research centers at the University, the institute fosters rich collaboration across University and community organizations. Our research associates span professions and disciplines including counseling, education, engineering, human development, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, psychology and social work.
The University-Assisted Community Schools (UACS) model touches on global health, support for marginalized populations, and progressive education. UACS collaborates with universities, community resources, and the school system, concentrating on academics, social support, and civic engagement.

Binghamton University Center for Community Schools is committed to improving global health through research, teaching and community engagement by addressing pressing global health problems and access to health services for those around the world.
Marginalized populations
Binghamton University Center for Community Schools develops, implements and evaluates new methods and models that enhance the quality of life of people who are often marginalized, including older adults and their caregivers, and people of diverse backgrounds. This positions the Center as a pioneer in interdisciplinary research and practice for the growing population of aging people, immigrants, those of racial, ethnic and gender minorities, people living in poverty and all who are disenfranchised.
Progressive education
Binghamton University Center for Community Schools supports and sustains quality of life for children, families and communities. Partnering with local school systems, community members and agencies to implement research and service-learning opportunities, the BUCCS advances the knowledge base through applied research, with a particular focus on developing, advancing and evaluating community schools.
